Forgiveness is for Me Too
When we think of good habits forgiveness isn’t necessarily the first thing that comes to many minds. Stay with me for a second. The forgiveness I am talking about comes from a beautiful Hawaiian practice called the Ho’oponopono.
It’s a beautiful process that helps clear the air or tension between 2 people. The beauty of the process is that it can be used on the self. What better self care and self love to extend that loving kindness and compassion inwards?
When extending forgiveness inwards it’s really extending your love and awakening your connection with your higher self. Huna teaches us that to be pono is to have your 3 selves aligned. You Ku (inner child), your Lono (Conscious) and your Kane (higher Self). When the 3 are aligned you are in flow. And the Ho’oponopono is that way to reconnect your 3 selves.
This is the process:
I love you. I am saying to my inner child, I see you, I care for you, I am here for you, I see you.
I am sorry. The Hawaiian language doesn’t have a word that says sorry, the essence of the practice though is to name the thing, the wrong, and to acknowledge it in this step. e.g I am sorry I wasn’t here for you.
Please forgive me. This is yes asking for forgiveness, but more over it’s also a promise to do better, to not make this transgression again. In essence to show that you have learned from the mistake. e.g I promise to be the loving parent to you that you needed.
Thank you. Thank you for the time and for allowing this process.
I love this process. It’s a clearing and cleansing. It’s like wiping the slate clean or as Dr Hew Len calls it, “a return to zero”. It’s a process I use over and over in all facets of my life. While lately I have been focused inwards it’s a process that you can use liberally. Like that commercial for the hot sauce where the woman says “I put that sh*t on everything”. That’s how I feel about Ho’oponopono. It’s my go to secret sauce for anything me to me, me to others, or me to outside frustrations. It’s my compass. My stabilizer.
Take a moment to check inwards. When was the last time you cleared the air between you and your inner child? Take 5 minutes with to create a deeper more loving relationship with yourself with this week’s meditation:
Love and light you this week!
