Mothers. The most amazing creatures on this planet!

I am not one of them, yet I can feel the motherly instinct in myself, too. Though I don’t have children of my own, I can love them so much. Most of all I love my friends’ children. They are the ones I get to spend the most time with and who are very dear to me. My heart hasn’t decided yet whether it is sad for not having any children of my own or content with getting to enjoy mostly the fun side of children. And boy, do I love the fun I get to have around those beloved children! They help me let my inner child have some playtime. They teach me how to see the world through the innocent and inquisitive eyes I once had. They test my boundaries and make me see where I am not at ease yet. And they let me act out my motherly nature by taking care of them sometimes and loving them to bits and pieces.

I am in awe with good-hearted mothers! They give so much and ask so little in return.

My mother is the best example. Coming from a broken home and being born into uncertain times here in Germany she has done a marvellous job at raising my brother and me. She has instilled in me a sense of justice and fairness by simple means, actually. For example, when there was let’s say a piece of cake left for both my brother and me, one of us got to divide it and the other one got to choose which piece to have first. Smart, right? She taught me good manners, something I learned to be truly grateful for only once I started having a job. She taught me how to efficiently clean and do other household chores. She showed me what it means to care for others and help them with an ever-willing heart, definitely one of her most awesome characteristics!

I think we mostly learn to truly value our mothers when we are grown-ups ourselves. When we’re young we often don’t want to listen to what they say. Or we are annoyed by how similar we are to them. I know I was! These days I am proud of being like my mother for I see what a stellar human she is! Now as both my parents are getting older I treasure every moment I have with them hoping the end is still far and that they remain healthy for years to come.
