Uncomfortable Surplus

Does your plenty ever make you feel uncomfortable in a group of people? Do you feel the need to hide a certain aspect of yourself in order to fit in with the people around you? That aspect could be wealth, health, your gifts, talents or learned skills, your positive attitude towards life, a fullness of gratitude, your beautiful laughter.

All these things are the plenty we work so hard to create, and then we hide them in order to fit in, and not be judged for being “too good.” It’s strange, indeed.

Unfortunately reducing ourselves doesn’t help anyone. Hiding our plenty may ease the tension in the moment, but it also takes away the potential for everybody to increase. If we willingly change the “DNA” of our abundance to reduce ourselves to the level everybody’s comfortable with we betray the very reason we were blessed with it. Just imagine everybody giving up his or her gifts in order to not feel different than the next person! The very purpose of any abundance is to pull others in.

So the question is:

Can we walk our talk with our surplus for our own benefit – as well as for that of others?
