You and Your Heart
Do you ever feel like you’re not doing what you’re supposed to be doing?
We’re at this point again when it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, looking for goals to accomplish throughout the year. As we all unfortunately know by experience most of those goals tend to fall through, some even quite quickly. In my understanding this recurring pattern has to do with the question I asked you right at the beginning. When we set goals with this thought in mind that we’re not yet doing what we think we should be doing, we seem to set ourselves up for failure. Unless we are superheroes of self-discipline, that is.
What if instead of thinking about what you’re supposed to be or do you turn it around? What happens if you see the blank slate of the New Year as a chance to get to invent your life? You could make it a game of curiously asking yourself questions such as these:
- If my life is mine to concoct, what does that look like?
- Who do I get to be when it’s up to me?
- What feels juicy for me right now?
- What is it that calls me in?
- What energy or emotion do I want to be connecting with all year long?
- What is most important for me at this time?
- What theme in my life really matters to me?
- Who do I want to be this year?
When you figured out what you want to be in your life you can then clarify what you need to make it more hands-on. Do you need play, rest, trust, learning experiences, intuition, open-mindedness, optimism or social connection? The practical steps may look the same as they did in previous years, but creating your life from what you want instead of from what you want to avoid will change the outcome. When you take ownership of your life’s creation you are the one who gets to mold the clay any which way you want. You and your heart get to decide.
When your life becomes an expression of what you truly want to be versus what you perceive you’re supposed to do the difference in how you will carry out your goals and intentions will be profound, as you will be aligned with those action steps you plan for yourself. What a happy New Year that will be!
